Believe that whatever one is seeing is real. Often used in the negative, such as "can't believe my eyes." Oh, I can't believe my eyes! Are you really throwing the ball in the house right now? Did you really buy me a new car? I can hardly believe my eyes! I can't believe my eyes. Please tell me you two didn't actually bring home a dog.
