beat the crowd

To arrive at some location before it becomes crowded with other people. If we want a good view of the parade, we'll have to get there early and beat the crowd. If you want me to drive to the stadium, then we have to beat the crowd—I hate trying to find parking in a sea of people. Wow, we really beat the crowd, huh? We could have front-row seats!
