be woke

slang To be aware of the need for and committed to supporting social justice. This usage of the term (particularly in reference to activism against black oppression) is thought to have originated in the mid-20th century US. You're not really woke if you think the status quo in this country is acceptable. A lot of companies are trying to be woke on social media to gain the support of younger consumers, though it rarely reflects their real values or intentions. She's may think she's woke, but her interest in these issues lasts only as long as they are trending.
