be up and doing

To be active, especially following a time of illness, injury, or idleness. After having the flu, I'm so excited to be up and doing again. A: "Doc, how long will it take until I'll be up and doing again?" B: "Well, you'll be in cast for at least six weeks." The surgery went very well, and the doctor is optimistic that she'll be up and doing soon.
