be (not) (one's) style

To be something that one is apt or known to do. Typically used in negative constructions to convey the opposite. I'm sure Jenna didn't start that rumor about you—that's just not her style. Of course Freddie's home studying on Saturday night. He's a nerd, that's his style. It's not my style to stand girls up, OK? The only reason I didn't call was because my phone battery had died.

be (not) the type of thing that somebody enjoys; be (not) the way somebody usually behaves: Classical music’s not my style; I prefer rock.I don’t like living in town much. The country is more my style.I’m sure he didn’t say that; it’s not his style at all. He’s always so polite.
