To be given less attention or be considered less notable, important, or successful compared to someone or something. He's been overshadowed by his father for the entirety of his political career. Unfortunately, the company's first foray into the world of smartphones was totally overshadowed by the latest innovation by Apple. As usual, my graduation day was overshadowed by my sister's drama.
