To be breathing with difficulty, as owing to exertion or respiratory problems; to be winded. I think Tom's asthma is getting worse—he was out of breath just from walking up the stairs. I had to run to catch the bus, so I was totally out of breath as I sat down in my seat. Now that your daughter is walking, get ready to chase her around all the time. I'm out of breath just thinking about it.
