To be noted or recorded formally and publicly, as for official publication. A: "Care to comment on the issue, Senator?" B: "OK, but this isn't on the record, understood?" You can't sue us for publishing what you said! Everything in that interview was on the record! Please turn the voice recorder off—I don't want these comments to be on the record.
