be on the lines of (something)

To be approximately or imperfectly similar to something; to be very like something, but not quite the same. Well, this sketch is on the lines of what I have in mind for the new kitchen, but there are a few tweaks you need to make before it's right. This movie is on the lines of your old favorites. For my new car, I'm thinking of something that's on the lines of a sedan, but I'm open to suggestions.
