be on (one's) way

1. To be currently en route (to someone or some place). We were a little late leaving the house, but we're on our way now! A: "Dad, can you come pick me up from soccer practice?" B: "Sure thing, pal. I'm on my way!" Please tell me you're on your way. I'm giving them the slowest service in the history of waitressing, but I can't keep them here forever!
2. To be currently departing. I just want to get a drink of water, and then I'll be on my way. We're on our way, the kids are putting on their shoes right now. Can this wait till later? I'm on my way out.
3. To be found or located along the route (to someone or some place). The store is on our way home, so let's just pick up some milk when we're coming back. A: "You're sure you don't mind driving me to the mall?" B: "Not at all. It's on my way!" We should pick up some flowers for your parents. I know of a good florist that's on our way.
