be off the sauce

slang To be abstaining from alcohol. I'm off the sauce because I got sick of feeling hungover all the time. Jim's off the sauce these days, so he doesn't want to go to the bar with us tonight. I'm much healthier now that I'm off the sauce, but I find it hard to socialize with my friends.
