be junior to (someone)

To have less authority than someone else in a hierarchy. I do have some direct reports, but I am junior to Carrie, who oversees the entire recruiting team. Because I'm junior to the manager of the department, I can't sign off on something like that. I have no problem being junior to someone—I don't want to be in charge!
