To be very excited or upset about something. The phrase can be but is usually not literal. Dad will be jumping up and down when he sees how low the electric bill is this month. The employees will be jumping up and down over this increase in vacation time. A: "Oh man, Mom'll be jumping up and down when she hears that you dented her new car." B: "That's why you can't say anything to her!"

COMMON If someone is jumping up and down about something, they are very angry or upset about it. It was a very controversial article that had people all over London jumping up and down with fury.
