To have fallen out of favor with someone due to having offended or mistreated them. I don't think I'll come to the party on Saturday because I'm in Jenny's bad books at the moment. John's been in the boss's bad books ever since he managed to drive away the firm's most lucrative client. Well, I stole his idea for the project—that's why I'm in his bad books.
