be far and away

To have surpassed everyone or everything else in some way. A superlative (often "the best") is used after "away." This is far and away the best cake you've ever made—it's positively scrumptious! I'm far and away the worst player on the team, so I doubt I'll play in the big game. I did read his story, and its far and away the best thing he's written.
