1. To behave in an outdated way. Of course Grandpa doesn't have a cell phone—he's behind the times, as usual. He expects me to use a floppy disk? Hoo boy, he's behind the times, huh? In today's society, you're behind the times if you don't have the latest smartphone, even if it just came out yesterday!
2. To lack the latest information on a particular subject. Wait, Joe and Mara broke up? Wow, I'm behind the times! Nah, you're behind the times—she's over photography now and totally into yoga. I'm behind the times, huh? I had no idea Greg got the promotion.
