be arrayed against (someone or something)

To be arranged or gathered in opposition to someone or something. If the empire's innumerable forces are arrayed against us, what chance does our tiny country have? During their invasion, the soldiers quickly found that the townspeople were arrayed against them and ready to fight. Anxiety is much higher now that we know the rival nation has nuclear weapons arrayed against us.
