be (some distance) out from (something or some place)

To be some quantity of miles, kilometers, etc., away from something or some place. I was about 15 miles out from the city when my car broke down. We'll need to be at least a few hundred yards out from the test area to ensure we are safe from the explosion. I can't believe we were a few miles out from the shore. Thank goodness you spotted us!
