be (one's) time

To be one's fated time to die. A: "But why? Why did Grandma have to die?" B: "Oh, darling. I know it's hard to understand, but she had lived a long, happy life, and it was her time." Please, Doc, you've got to help me! It's not my time! You need to get to the hospital right away to say goodbye to Uncle Ed—we think it's his time.
