To be improved or made better by (doing) something It's a strange thing—their star player has been out all year, and yet they seem to be the better for it! Look at their sparkling record. I'm sorry I got so ratty with you earlier. I think we'll both be all the better for a full night's sleep. We've gone through some really tough things together, but I wholeheartedly believe our relationship is the better for it.
