bang the drum for (someone or something)
To voice one's support for someone or something. Quit banging the drum for that candidate—he is simply not qualified for the job. At first the legislation didn't seem to have much support, but recently I've seen some people banging the drum for it online. I'm surprised by how many people in the neighborhood have been banging the drum for the new shopping center—I'm vehemently opposed to it.
