For someone to invite one to the place where they live. Mom, can I ask some friends over? I already asked Kelly over tonight—do you want to come too? Sure, you can ask Billy over, but he has to go home when it's time for dinner.

to invite someone who lives close by to come to one's home [for a visit]. (Either to a house or apartment.) Can we ask Tom over? He has been asked over a number of times.
