By bad fortune. "Ill luck" is sometimes hyphenated. I was already late and then, as ill luck would have it, I couldn't find a parking spot. As ill-luck would have it, the other candidate accepted, so I didn't get the job after all! As ill luck would have it, I got into a minor car accident on my way to work, and then I spilled coffee all over my brand-new suit!
