anyone would think...

anyone would think (something)

It seems that something is true, even though it isn't. This phrase is usually used when someone is acting in a unusual manner. Why are you so nervous? Geez, anyone would think you'd never given a presentation before. Those two bicker so much that anyone would think they hate each other, not that they run a business together! A: "What's wrong? Anyone would think you've never made a roast before." B: "Well, I haven't, not for this many people!"
