age-old

Very old or established; related to a time long before one would be able to remember. Why don't we ever sing new songs? I'm sick of these age-old hymns. My writing professor is always reminding us of the age-old axiom "show, don't tell" so that our stories are interesting and entertaining to the reader. The offering of the first harvest to the gods is an age-old tradition in this village.
