Poorly, imperfectly, or without great care. I managed to fix my bike after a sort. It still sounds like it's about to fall apart, but at least it still moves! A: "He told me he repaired the hole, but it turns out he only put a framed picture over it." B: "Ah, so he 'repaired' the hole after a sort." What, did you sand the wall after a sort? It's still completely uneven!
