slang Able to cope or deal with something. Primarily heard in Ireland. He's only able for any meaningful conversation once he's had his coffee. Kids, would you please stop screaming at me, I'm not able for it this early in the morning! They want to meet up with us at nine at night—are you able for that? I know you're not a night owl.
