Something that allows or causes one to make an important career decision. The phrase is associated with Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, who would speak of such (possibly literal) walks during his tenure. Primarily heard in Canada. Pierre Trudeau said that a walk in the snow helped him to decide to retire from politics in 1984. Resigning is a big decision. You better take a walk in the snow before you do anything rash. I wanted to leave the company, but now they've offered me a promotion! I need a walk in the snow to help me figure out what I'm going to do.
