1. A happy, confident, and enthusiastic mood or manner, as indicated by the carefree way one walks. Joe's been walking with a spring in his step ever since he found out he was getting a promotion. I bet you'll have a spring in your step after I tell you this bit of good news! You two got engaged? Well, no wonder you have a spring in your step—congratulations!
2. An increased amount of energy or alertness. Add an extra shot of espresso to my latte. I need something that will put a spring in my step! Whew, that energy drink sure put a spring in my step. Now let's get this report done! Unfortunately, I think I'd need to sleep for a week straight to get a spring in my step.
