a shade of (something)

A particular hue of a given color. I think we should paint this room a light shade of green. The painter tinged the landscape with a shade of red that gave the painting a more ominous and solemn atmosphere. No, that's not the right shade of yellow—it's a bit darker than the color that's on the walls.
