a necktie party

a necktie party

An execution by hanging or lynching carried out by a mob of people outside the process of the law. Enraged by the lack of action by the officers of the law, the men of the town began organizing a necktie party for the notorious gangster. Back in the 1800s, necktie parties were a more common occurrence, courtesy of townspeople taking the law into their own hands. Hey, necktie parties are illegal in these parts, you hear? If you've got a problem with somebody, take it up with the authorities.
