Hyphenated if used before a noun.
1. Very quickly (as in intervals of mere minutes). Liz's labor progressed very slowly at home, but once we got to the hospital, it felt like things were changing minute by minute.
2. Of or including each individual minute within a certain span of time. Prosecutors laid out a minute-by-minute breakdown of exactly how and when the crime took place.
