lat

Short for "latissimus dorsi," either of the two large, broad muscles that cover each half of the back. Typically referenced together as a plural. I need to work on my lats when I go to the gym. I've got this weird pain in the lat on my right side.

lato sensu

From Latin, meaning "in the broad sense"; broadly or generally speaking. We have yet to know the impact the court's decision will have on tax laws lato sensu.
