hurting

1. informal Experiencing financial distress or difficulty. A lot of shops around here have really been hurting because of the new tax law. Well, yeah, we've been hurting for money ever since Henry got laid off. I wonder why the places down here always seem to be hurtin'. Is it the lack of foot traffic?
2. colloquial Unappealing; in poor condition. This place is really hurting—you're going to have to do a ton of repairs and renovations. After dropping my phone so many times, the screen is really hurting. Well, this car may be hurtin' now, but it's been reliable for me since the day I bought it 20 years ago.
