1. A phrase used to literally start a game. Is everyone lined up? OK, game on! I was so nervous that I barely even heard the referee say, "Game on!" If the pitcher's done with his warm-up tosses, it's game on, folks!

2. A phrase used when one is ready to meet or pursue a particular challenge. All right, game on—let's get the cleaning started! If you want to play me in air hockey, game on! Why is "game on" my son's automatic response to any stupid challenge his friends come up with? He's going to get himself killed!

3. A phrase used when one is eager to benefit from a particular situation. I thought I was doing the work for free, but hey, if she wants to pay me, game on! You'll do all my chores for a month, and I just have to tell Mom you're at a study group tonight and not a party? Sure, game on. Hey, game on—I'm more than happy to give information to cute guys who want to pay for it. This is way better than answering questions from the police!

People say game on to mean that they are ready for something challenging to begin. You think you can beat me? Game on! Note: You can also say it's game on for someone to mean that they are about to face a challenge. It's game on for toy makers as Christmas approaches.
