full term

1. adjective Referring to the end of gestation. Typically applied to human pregnancy. In this usage, the phrase is typically hyphenated. Thank god I'm finally full-term. I feel like I've been pregnant forever. You're considered full-term at 39 weeks. It's a high risk pregnancy, that's for sure. I'm worried she won't make it to full-term.
2. noun A tenure in some post that reaches completion. The scandal prevented the senator from serving his full term—he had to resign in disgrace. No, James Garfield didn't serve his full term as US president—he died following an assassination attempt mere months into his presidency. Even though she has been diagnosed with a debilitating illness, she still intends to serve her full term as mayor.
