fixer

slang One tasked with handling and alleviating problems for someone, often illicitly. It came out later that the publisher scuttled the scandalous story after being paid off by the CEO's fixer. Henry, you wouldn't need to pay a fixer if you could just stay out of trouble for once! This is not a big deal—I'll just have my fixer settle with these disgruntled former employees out of court.

fixer-upper

A building, especially a house or other dwelling, that is lower in price but requires a substantial amount of renovation or repair. We decided to buy a fixer-upper and use the money we saved to turn it into our dream house. It's a bit of a fixer-upper, sure, but has the potential to be worth triple its asking price if you do it up properly. My husband wants to buy a fixer-upper, but I don't want to have to live through months upon months of construction.
