fast break

basketball An attempt by offensive players to score very quickly after regaining possession of the ball. The team's center managed to disrupt his opponent's pass, giving his teammates an opportunity for a fast break and a two-pointer. Well, you're going to see your lead slip away when you turn over the ball and allow for fast breaks like that. Ugh, Wilson just had a fast break, but his shot clanked off the rim.
