damp off

To die after overexposure to water. Typically used in reference to plants and seeds. I'm worried that days of torrential rain will cause the flowers I just planted to damp off. Whoa, no, if you water your succulent that often, it'll damp off! My last few plants damped off, so I stick to fake plants now.

damping off

A fungal disease of pants and seeds caused by overexposure to water. Aw man, thanks to the days of torrential rain we've been having, the flowers I planted could succumb to damping off. Whoa, no, if you water your succulent that often, damping off is inevitable. Are you trying to kill it? After my last few plants experienced damping-off, I stick to fake plants now.
