crossroads of the world

A location that serves to connect many different parts of the world together, as in culture or commerce. Situated between so many global superpowers, the little country is really at the crossroads of the world. The mass immigration of people from so many different backgrounds has transformed the landlocked state into something of a crossroads of the world. The Ottoman Empire was something of a crossroads of the world by virtue of its land in Africa, Asia, and Europe.
