1. noun A knife or similar stabbing implement, especially one that is homemade or crudely fashioned. The prisoner was stabbed with a chiv made from the sharpened handle of a broken broom. How do you think Ricky the Rat ended up getting stabbed? His mortal enemy had a chiv, and no guards were around. These prisoners sure get creative when it comes to fashioning a chiv out of something.
2. verb To cut or stab (someone) with such a weapon. Be careful if you mean to arrest him. Scum like him won't hesitate to chiv you with a blade hidden in the folds of their coats.
