cardboard city

An area heavily populated by homeless people (who sometimes use cardboard for warmth or makeshift shelter). Our local government does little to help the cardboard city, and it just keeps growing in size. There has been a cardboard city in this part of town for decades, populated by all manner of people who have fallen on hard times. Our local cardboard city is certainly growing as rent prices skyrocket and more and more people end up on the streets.

cardboard cutout

A figure or shape that has been cut out of a large piece of cardboard, especially a life-size replica of a person or thing. I surprised my sister with a cardboard cutout of her favorite singer for her birthday. When my girlfriends decorated the hotel suite for my bachelorette weekend, they even included a cardboard cutout of my fiancé. Get that thing out of here. I know I'm CEO now, but no one needs to come face to face with a cardboard cutout of me the second they walk in the building.
