1. noun, informal A light strike, blow, or impact. My dad gave me a clip on the ear after I told him I wouldn't do my chores. Look at this dent! Someone must have given me a clip in the parking lot. Even though I apologized profusely, I still feel bad for giving the girl I like an accidental clip in the face.
2. noun, informal A particular pace or rate, especially a fast one. We kept driving at a good clip to make sure we weren't late to the airport. I know you're still a beginner, so just see if you can maintain a steady clip on the horse. I'm still getting back into shape after my injury, so I'm not running at my usual clip yet.
3. verb, informal To hit (someone or something) with a light strike or blow. Some maniac clipped my car as they came rushing through the parking lot. A: "I saw him throw a punch at you. Are you all right?" B: "Yeah, he just clipped me on the chin. I'll be fine." Because the ball clipped the second baseman's glove and bounced into the outfield, Sosa has himself a base hit!
4. verb, slang To cheat or swindle (someone). They clipped me for an extra $300 on the repair job, knowing that I had no choice but to pay up. It's highway robbery, I tell you! The guy said it was a great deal for such a rare album, but I'm starting to think he clipped me. That club clips all of its patrons by charging an exorbitant cover.
5. verb, slang To murder (someone). I hear Tommy Two-Finger clipped Jimmy the Rat for squealing to the feds. Wait, that guy clipped his wife and went to jail? Man, you really never know you a person, huh? They promised to let her live as long as she cooperated, but they clipped her anyway as soon as she had divulged the information they needed.

1. slang Swindled or deceived. I refuse to get clipped at that club again—it charges an exorbitant cover. Don't go to that place unless you want to get clipped—the prices are sky-high and the food is mediocre at best. If people feel like they're getting clipped at your new restaurant, you'll have a hard time establishing a loyal customer base.
2. slang Arrested or apprehended. If they catch you defacing the park benches, you'll be clipped for sure. Well, I had to go down to the police station this morning because it seems that my son got clipped last night on his way home. The burglar was finally clipped by the police? Good.
3. vulgar slang Circumcised. Really? He wasn't clipped as a baby?
