butch

1. noun, slang A pejorative term likening a doctor to a butcher. I'll never go to that butch again, not since he misdiagnosed my infection and I wound up in the ER! If that butch says we have to amputate my hand, then, yes, I want a second opinion! Honestly, I don't know how a butch like him didn't fail out of med school.
2. noun, slang A person who is masculine in appearance or sensibility. Typically used of lesbians and gay men who exhibit such traits. Some lesbians describe themselves as butches, some describe themselves as femmes, and others eschew labels altogether. Julie always dates butches. A: "Eh, he's kind of a butch—not really my type." B: "I know, you've always liked the skinny pretty boys."
3. adjective, slang Describing a person who is masculine in appearance or sensibility. Typically used of lesbians and gay men who exhibit such traits. Everyone Julie dates is butch. I'm sorry, but Luke's my best friend, and I know the butch, lumberjack vibe is not going to win him over. A: "You've never been a girly-girl, even before you came out." B: "Yeah, I always leaned into the butch aesthetic, huh?"
