bit-bucket

A humorous name for the place where lost computer files are thought to have gone. I could have sworn I saved that document, but it must have gone into the bit-bucket. Anything on Ethel's computer mysteriously ends up in the bit-bucket, so keep an eye on her, huh? A: "Didn't you save that photo to your desktop?" B: "I thought so, but where the heck is it? It seems to have gone into the bit-bucket."
