Advanced beyond one's ability to do, accomplish, or comprehend something. Why she loves sports so much is beyond me. Personally, I've never seen the appeal of running around and getting sweaty. We need to replace our project manager. It's obvious that overseeing such a complex task is beyond him. Of course I'm calling a professional—installing a new heater is clearly beyond you!

beyond (something)

1. Physically past something. The store is just beyond that hill—you'll see it soon enough. Our cell phone coverage should improve once we get beyond the mountains. Once we get beyond that buoy, we'll have to turn around.
2. Having rectified some problem or situation. Now that we're beyond those financial issues, I finally feel less stressed. I think Grandpa will be much less irritable once he's beyond this illness. Everything will be better once we're beyond exams.
3. Experiencing a more extreme degree of some emotion. A: "Are you mad about what he said?" B: "Oh, I'm beyond mad—I'm furious!" I feel beyond happy that my BFF is coming to visit this weekend! The kids are beyond excited to go to Disney World tomorrow.
4. At or to a point or position at which something is not or no longer possible. I was upset about the situation at first, but it has become so drawn out that I'm beyond caring at this point. The damaged fence looks beyond repair to me. You're better off tearing it down and putting up a new one. This photo now proves, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that my client is innocent.
