(one's) luck runs out

One is no longer experiencing good fortune. We didn't have any major issues our first few years in the house, but this leak in the roof means that our luck has run out. We've already managed to negotiate a pretty lucrative contract with this investment company. I think we should sign the paperwork now before our luck runs out. I froze as the bully cast a long shadow over me on the playground. "You thought you could hide from me, twerp? Well, your luck's run out!"
