(one's) hair stands on end

One is extremely frightened, nervous, or anxious. My hair stood on end reading the ghost story all alone in my house. When we go camping, every little noise outside my tent makes my hair stand on end. It could be a bear, after all! My hair always stands on end when I have to walk through a graveyard.
