1. Completely or exceptionally dry. Man, it is as dry as a bone out there today—not a bit of humidity in the air. No amount of moisturizer ever seems to help!
2. Having or characterized by extremely unemotional, understated, straight-faced humor. The legendary comedian was known for his distinct appearance and jokes that were always dry as a bone. It's a typical black comedy—edgy, uncomfortable, and as dry as a bone. Don't take anything my grandfather says seriously. His humor is just dry as a bone.

dry as a bone

If something is as dry as a bone, it is very dry. By the end of June the pond is as dry as a bone. Note: People also use the much more frequent adjective bone-dry to mean the same thing. Fires have destroyed more than 200,000 acres of bone-dry forests. His throat was bone dry.
