every dog has its day

If you say every dog has its day, you mean that everyone will be successful or lucky at some time in their life. Former England player Davies said: `Every dog has his day, although the way I kicked throughout the game, who would have thought that drop goal would even reach the posts?' `I don't have any money to fight him,' he said. `But every dog has its day and I have lots of patience.' Note: This expression is sometimes used to encourage someone at a time when they are not having any success or luck. Note: This proverb has been known in English since at least the 16th century. Shakespeare quotes it in `Hamlet': `Let Hercules himself do what he may, The cat will mew and dog will have his day.' (Act 5, Scene 1).
